E's Fistula Repair Surgery

E will be having surgery to fix his palatal fistula (opening) on Wednesday December 2nd at 7:30 in the morning. It is a same day surgery, and the nurse thinks we might even get out of there in the morning. E will be wearing arm restraints again, and drinking with the special SoftFeeder nipple. Or if I can get him used to it, I may start him on sippy cups completely now so he will be ready for surgery in a few weeks.

I am trying to modify this sippy lid to see if he will take it. Since he still cannot make suction with his mouth, he needs a very fast flow sippy such as one without a valve, or one that has huge holes in the spout, or both. Wish us luck!

How exciting! Could we have M over for a playdate then?

That would be great! We have grandma helping the day of surgery, so perhaps a playdate the day after on Thursday? I'm sure M would love to play while E recovers.

Hey you should look into the Nuby or munchkin sippy cup. It has a soft spout and no valve. Even though he wouldn't be able to provide suction when he bites down on it the liquid comes out. It was the first cup I tried with Liv and she took to it really well. It might work?? Let me know if we can do anything for you guys!! Good luck little (no so)tiny man :)

We have had the Nuby one (soft spout, no valve) but it was still really hard for E to get water/milk out.
So I poked a wooden skewer in each of the three holes in the sippy lids on the Munchkin kind, and it works great. We have one lid with bigger holes, and then one lid with the holes completely cut through with a knife. He can do it with those!
Whew. Great minds think alike, huh? :)
